Senan John Whelan was Director of Music at Epiphany & St. Mark, Parkdale from November 1998 - 2002
He began his Piano studies in 1967 with Mabel Quinn, his Organ studies in 1971 with William Watson and Viola studies with Herbert Poche (Deutsche Oper Berlin) in 1974.
He has worked in the capacity of organist for the Anglican Communion since 1971 when he was appointed to that position at St. Lawrence’s Anglican Church, Chapelizod, County Dublin, Ireland.
Between 1979 and 1985 (when he moved to the USA) Senan played Viola with the RTE Concert and RTE Symphony (now known as the NSO) orchestras and also won the ‘Michael Clifton Cup’ at the ‘Senior Viola’ Competition of the Feis Ceoil (national music competition of Ireland) in 1979.
Before his move to Canada in 1998, he was Director of Music at St. Michael’s, Vaucluse, NSW, Australia where he worked in conjunction with the then incumbent and noted Australian composer and liturgist, L. F. Bartlett.
He resumed the orchestral part of his music career by playing with the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra in Sydney, NSW, Australia in 1993.
Besides an honours B.Sc. degree from the National University of Ireland (UCD), he holds both Fellowship (FTCL) and Licentiate (LTCL) diplomas in Organ performance from Trinity College of Music London and the Licentiate (LRSM) diploma of the Royal Schools of Music London in Organ teaching.
He has given recitals in both Ireland and Australia. He also works as a Systems Analyst / Programmer.
