The Gregorian Schola (Men's Voices) is a fully robed ensemble which rehearses at 4:45pm on the first Sunday of each month for the service of Evensong (6pm - 6:45pm)
The Schola is where you can enjoy ancient plainsong combined with mystical silence. To express musically our concern for the nurture and care of the soul is what the St Peter's Schola are about. When we sing we are able to recognise and respond to the hunger for the numinous and transcendent presence of God in our lives
The Schola suits experienced and beginner singers, and you don't have to be a member of the Anglican church or be experienced in group singing to join. We believe that you can develop you vocal skills in our environment without performance pressure. The attraction of developing your singing in the schola is assisted by the friendly, non-judgemental and encouraging place where singing can be a very enjoyable and satisfying experience
The Schola is a great place for beginners to learn the basic skills of choral singing and performance. Skills developed include pitching, diction, vowel placement, resonance, sound blending and tone quality. It is expected that those who join the schola should be able to hold relative pitch with the group. We sing music that is composed in English and Latin
During a private audition, vocal quality, music reading skills and your ability to blend will be assessed. You will be asked you to sing a hymn or item of your choice
Attendance at monthly Sunday evening rehearsal and Service
Occasional Sunday morning services during Advent and Lent
Once you joined the choir, you can expect to be part of a group who love to sing. We ask you to regularly attend rehearsals, be punctual and to learn the words and music of our repertoire as soon as possible outside of rehearsals. We ask that you share our aim of seeking to achieve excellence in our singing, vocal production and musicality
