A fun and challeging choir for boys aged 7 - 13 years. Meets for one hour per week during school term.
What does choir membership involve?
Primarily it requires dedication and commitment, as well as the inherent qualities of enthusiasm and the ability to sing well. Life as a treble chorister usually begins at around the age of 7 or 8 when they are introduced to the choir routine and begin to learn new repertoire. After this has been successfully established they are expected to commence the normal attendance timetable of a weekday practice
What training is provided?
Throughout their period in the choir, choristers are given specific targets to increase their skills. Typically this is geared around the internal award system promoted by the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) and will cover all aspects including processing, kneeling and sitting still, familiarity in handling books and music, as well as appropriately graded musical tests. Although much of this is assessed ‘on the job’, individual sessions are arranged from time to time. An element of incentive and competition is obtained through the team system of earning weekly points for good work.
The five modules of the music education programme are:
Using the voice well
Music skills and understanding
Personal progress
General Training
Broader understanding of the choir and its role
The Junior Choir Songbook includes a wide-range of songs and canons, from African, Australian, British and Spiritual traditions, appealing to all singers
Cost
There is no cost to join or take part in the choir. Choir members, and parents, are required to commit to attendance at all rehearsals and Junior Choir services. The schedule of services and rehearsals is provided at the beginning of each term
