Michael Wheeler is the trumpet soloist at St Peter's and the director of St Peter's Brass. Michael received a Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Music Education from the University of New South Wales in 1998, majoring in trumpet under James Blunt. Frequently appearing as a soloist, Michael has performed Hummel's Trumpet Concerto in Eb with the Waverley/Randwick Philharmonic Orchestra (1999) and in 2001 he performed two solo recitals in the Sydney Town Hall sponsored by the City of Sydney
In 2002 Michael's Arresting Cardiac Fanfares for the Sydney International Cardiology Conference were premiered in the Sydney Town Hall. Michael often appears in concert with soprano Jeannie Kelso (Opera Australia) and Robert Goode (Associate Organist, Sydney Town Hall) and the trio have become known for their lively and diverse programs. Their most recent appearance was at the Red Cross Emergency Benefit Concert at St John's, Gordon, in May 2002. Michael's upcoming 2002 performances include two lunchtime recitals in the Sydney Town Hall on September 3rd and a trumpet and organ recital in St James' Anglican Church, Morpeth
Michael is also the president of Bel a cappella, a lively and youthful chamber choir under the direction of Matthew Wood which presents its concert series in Saint Scholastica's Convent Chapel, Glebe. Michael is also a founding member of the Australian Trumpet Guild and he regularly contributes to its journal Mouthpiece
Michael directs St Peter's Brass which performs music for High Feast Days, weddings and special events. Michael is available to play for your wedding, concert or event
