CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE

This is a gift from God and a symbol of God's unending love for his people. It is a lifelong partnership uniting a woman and a man in heart, mind and body. The journey of marriage is one of love, though also of faith as the couple constantly moves into the future. In marriage husband and wife give themselves to each other, to care for each other in good times and in bad. They are linked to each other's families, and they begin a new life together in the community. It is a way of life that all should reverence. Through marriage a new family is formed, where children may be born and grow in secure and loving care.

The Church's prayer is that those united in Christian marriage may know God's presence in their joys and sorrows, reach old age in the company of friends and eventually reach their heavenly home.

SOME ASPECTS OF WEDDINGS AT ST PETER'S

Saturday is the most popular day for a ceremony. The church is available from 11am on a Saturday until the early evening. It is never available for a wedding on a Sunday.

A priest of the parish normally officiates at the ceremony.

We expect that the couple will have a relationship with the Anglican Church and that at least one party is baptized.

If either party is divorced, you will need to discuss with the priest. The bishop's permission is needed before the marriage can proceed.

Fees for an average wedding are $650. Included in this is $220 for flowers to decorate the interior of the church. A deposit of $100 is expected to be paid at the time of making a firm booking. Such a booking cannot be made until the couple has had an interview with the priest.

A sheet with more detailed information especially about some legal aspects of marriage in Australia will be forwarded to you at your request.

Please be in touch with the rector (parish priest) should you wish to make a tentative booking and arrange an interview.
